FFF ~ Friends, Food, Fun
Aug 29th, 2010 by Angele
Hello people! How did you spend your Sunday? I just got back from lunch with blogerettes _T|nE_ and Kit. We had dim sum at Grand Ocean in Caudan. Worthwhile? Totally! I’ve had this massive hankering for dim sum for a while now. Gosh, I’m so stuffed!
Ok I can almost hear some of you begging for pictures! So here’s where the interesting part comes in!

Sadly we didn’t get to taste the egg tarts. By the time we ordered dessert, there were no more egg tarts left! (-___-”)
Oh yeah and just so you know, we ate much more than what’s on the pics. *nia hahaha* ![]()
It’s just that I didn’t bother to take lotsa photos. The restaurant was packed and I noticed a few people staring while I was taking pictures of food! Me felt embarrassed!
My craving for dim sum was finally satisfied but more than that, the company of friends turned what I would consider a good dim sum lunch into a great and memorable meal. Thank you girls for making this so much fun. ![]()
P.S : I’m still wondering how the three of us gulped down almost five pots of Chinese tea! *gasps*
And thanks to Tine for driving us around!
when’s the next foodie expedition?
*drools*
We don’t have cakes at dim sum restaurants here!
Initially, my friends wanted dim sum for breakfast this morning. But the thought of having to reach the restaurant at 6-6.30am in order to get a parking space and a table turned us off so much that we ended up in McDonald’s at 9.30am. More sleep. :P
Paret mari bonnn sa bane nana laaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Eh b kot foto ZOT?? lol!!!
heheheh!!!
To Kit,
Yes! Thank you Tine!!
Next is Milky Lane or Kimchi House
. Can’t wait!
To day-dreamer,
Chinese restaurants in Mauritius serve dim sum mainly for lunch. We don’t have restaurants that open at 6.30am for breakfast here!
Oh yeah the cakes! Hehe
. Well most restaurants have the traditional dim sum desserts like egg tarts, sesame balls or sweet steamed buns. But Grand Ocean has a wider choice of desserts including sweet pastries and cakes.
To Jaimie,
Kan mone retourne home ki mone realiser nou pane prend foto de nou meme! >.<
Mais si to guet bien lor 7eme foto la to kav trouve Tine so les bras! Does that count? Hahaha
no worries girls
so when is the next food expedition?

What? Manju “the little food-a-holic” didn’t join the party? :o This is just food porn here, Gele, you know, that, right? I’ll notify WordPress about this, they must do something :P
To Angele,
Have you been to Vancouver when you were in Canada? There’s a Chinese restaurant there that serves Dim Sum everyday from 7:30 am to about 3:00 pm. This place is huge; a whole floor. In the evening, the restaurant is partitionned into smaller sections for dinner. I just don’t know why I did not take any picture. The food is very good there.
On thing that I notice immediately now, but did not at the beginning is how small the portions in Mauritius are, compared to the portions in Canada. I would think that it’s even worse if we compare to American portions. It’s not rocket science to see why weight is a big problems for North Americans.
To Christine,
I think Manju mentioned on Twitter that Milky lane is opened on Sunday now. Maybe we can go there some day soon
.
To Manju,
You missed the yummy food and the gossip!! Hopefully we’ll meet soon for yet another food expedition. Milky lane, Kimchi house, c delights? Where else???
To nino,
No sadly Manju couldn’t make it for dim sum
. We’re planning to meet again for lunch or dinner though
.
Oh didn’t you know that WordPress encourages bloggers to promote porn… food porn!!
To Patrick,
Haven’t been to Vancouver but I’ve been to dim sum a few times in Toronto and even that was quite something! I remember the wide variety of dim sum dishes, loud and lively conversation, cutlery noises, kitchen sounds… @_@ Nothing compared to having dim sum in Mauritius XD
Small portions, eh! Tell me about it! Small amount of food but very expensive
.
Is it just me or is food quite cheap in Canada? Well of course, I’m not referring to 5 stars restaurants but to the usual restaurants and foodcourt.
To Angele
You sound like a Canadian talking, eh? When I first visited Mauritius after more that a year in Canada, I forgot how small the portions are in Mauritius compared to Canada. I was brought back to reality when I ordered a soft drink at KFC in Grand Baie :-)
Huge portions are okay, but they also cause obesity problem in North America. Food sellers think they need to offer a lot to attract customers. Customers want to finish their plates because they paid for the food.
Food is less expensive in Canada, that’s for sure. However, I sometimes wonder why. I mean the food industry needs to make profits. It won’t surprise me that most of the things we eat in Canada are genetically modified. We will only know the side effects 10 or 20 years from now…unfortunately.
To Patrick,
I’ve read that according to a survey, restaurant owners believe customers expect big platefuls of food when eating out! No wonder obesity is becoming a huge problem in various parts of the world. No pun intended here!
To la pingouine,
Here’s the deal. You can treat me to dim sum when you get your first paycheck, ok?
