Ha! The question everybody asks when they come to know my boyfriend is Muslim! This is a touchy subject for a lot of people but I’m ok with it. I’ve always told myself that nobody will ever make me do something against my will. If someday I convert to Islam, it will be because I truly want to and not because someone forced me into it. But I know where I stand, I know who I am and where I belong.
But do you know that “it is permissible for a Muslim man to marry a non-Muslim woman if she is Christian or Jewish, but it is not permissible for him to marry a non-Muslim woman who follows any religion other than these two”?
Interfaith marriages are very common nowadays and I think that for such marriages to succeed, couples should avoid mistakes like :
- ignoring the religious differences
- believing that love only will conquer everything
- forcing your beliefs upon your partner
- giving in so much that you lose your own traditions and your own self-respect
… etc.. etc..
LaSh and I have been together for more than 4 years now. We love and respect each other and despite all the challenges and obstacles, we will work it out, together, hand in hand.
I can write a lot on the subject but maybe I’ll leave that for some future posts?

yes, the touchy and almost taboo subject!
Whatever your choice, its yours and Ive no objection. Im quite open-minded. I like to think of myself as being “liberal”. Like I said, Im just curious. Im curious as I dont know how much Mu has changed. Is it still very traditional and conservative? Or are we more tolerant nowadays? Do we still care about such things as religion when it comes to marriage? Considering how you are of my generation, if not younger, and you are still in Mu (unlike me), you can be a perfect “barometer” of how things are. Hence, my annoying question! :P
So far, Ive met a married couple where the husband is a muslim and the wife is not. I find this quite interesting. Unfortunately, I havent had the opportunity to drill them with my questions! :P Perhaps, like you put it, it’s because she is christian. Or perhaps, its just because they just dont care about it and they are part of a society where it’s considered normal not to care. Its just love Full Stop.
I like to see interfaith and inter-ethnic marriages succeed! Inevitably, it leads to a rapprochement between two otherwise distinct groups. And eventually, better understanding, tolerance and yaaay peaceful coexistence…

pss: ive nothing against any religion. im just being nosy! but yes, feel free to be offended if you feel like you need to be offended…
psss: well according to my shrink, ive made much progress in mental stability by being able to change my status from “boring” to “dark humor”! :P yes, its called improvement! :P

What the arrival of my daughter made me realise is that there are so many things that are not important in life but to which we tend to attach a lot of importance. Before Angelica, I used to say, “If only I had this or that.” Now, it’s totally different. I guess what she made me realise that it should always be about me.

Before I became a father, I never checked the baby clothes aisle in the supermarket when I went grocery shopping. For the frist few months, I would stob by a supermarket to buy some grocery before heading home after work. I would always checked the baby clothes aisle. It’s so much more pleasant buying things for your child than buying for yourself. I can help wondering if I would have felt the same way if I had a baby boy instead of a baby girl. I guess I will never know…unless I have a second child and that the second child turns out to be a boy. But like my mother said to me, as a father I will love my child the same way regardless if my child is a boy or a girl.
