Feminicide – Crying out for justice
Mar 10th, 2009 by Angele
Are you familiar with the term “feminicide”? According to the sociologist Julia Monarrez, feminicide refers to murders which include torture, blows to the head or body, mutilation, bites, often to the breast or genitals, tying up the victim or any kind of abuse which seems to have as its aim the elimination of women.
A few days ago while browsing the internet, I came across an article about cases of feminicide in various parts of Africa and Central America. I was shocked when I read the stories of those women who had been abused in the most aggressive and violent ways one can possibly imagine. This article particularly gave me goose bumps. The more I read, the more I got disgusted. A sick feeling had begun in the pit of my stomach as I discovered the atrocities done to those women. Unfortunately the article I’m talking about is in French. I couldn’t find many articles about feminicide in English that were as heart-rending. For those who understand French, please do read the story.
I’ll try to describe in a few words what this is all about for those who don’t read French. The article relates the stories of victims of feminicide in Congo. The cruelties they were put through: mutilated and sexually assaulted, with breasts hacked off, objects thrust up body cavities and deep slashes across chest and face. “A soldier cut open a pregnant woman, killed her baby, cooked it and forced the other prisoners to eat it.” This is how barbarian those murderers are…
I found another article here in English. This one is about feminicide in Mexico.
We should become aware of such cruelties done to women. We shouldn’t close our eyes and ignore the facts that in some places of the world, women are being tortured to death… simply because they are women.
The world celebrated International Woman’s Day on March 8. But somewhere somehow, if we scratch the surface and look deeper, there is a dark spot that still needs to be taken care of.
Indifference. Silence. Impunity. Each plays a role in feminicide. This has to stop.
These shits nvr think that without women, they ain’t gonna be in this world.
this is horrible what was the un doing ?
To Kyh,
Those people just don’t think at all. They are BASTARDS!
To Yusha,
Feminicide has been going on for years now and countless number of women have died. I have read that the UN has promoted campaigns to engage reflection about cultural attitudes and gender inequalities that perpetuate violence against women… But obviously this is not enough.
OMG… I was shivering while reading this. Why do they do this? I feel like crying. There’s got to be a way to stop this. I have once watched a doc about NGOs in France sending people to those countries to help out the women but unfortunately this is not sufficient. Those NGOs lack volunteers.
Of course this has to stop … But we need all the people in the world for support which I think has reached the quota – yet … It’s sad to see this happening still and hopefully such cruelties can be stopped.
To Morinn,
I felt the same way while reading about feminicide for the first time. I really have no idea why they do such horrors to women. Those women could have been their wives, mothers, daughters… It’s disgusting
To Kyels,
It’s unbelievable that such barbarian killing is still happening nowadays. I was deeply touched by the stories of these victims and I sincerely hope that in a near future, the word “feminicide” will no longer exist.
ironic isn’t it? here we are celebrating woman’s day and elsewhere, it’s a different story. are they blardy jealous of us being women or what?? *rage*
In a word, GACK!!!
What on earth would motivate a guy to do things like that? Is it womb envy? Is it a case of, “If you can’t be mine, you can’t be anybody’s,” mentality? Or is it like the Taliban, who seem to regard women as a vice that corrupts men?
Some people are just sick. So are certain cultures, I’ll say point blank.
To _butt,
Yeah very ironic indeed. Sometimes we can even ask ourselves if we are actually living on the same planet!
To The Moody Minstrel,
So many questions and yet no answer. One thing for sure, such people are definitely sick in their mind. They look upon women with indifference and treat them like shit. It’s shocking and alarming.
We all have the right to live in this world freely. No one is allow to murder us or tortured because only God is the owner of our life that is why we need justice for every victims of that kind of situations. I believe that we create equally by God.
Last post from Ghena… puffy eyes from crying
